It’s Just January!!

So cold…so clean…so QUIET!!

Greetings from the land of “Winter that Can’t Make Up it’s Mind”!!  When I came to Michigan, I was all prepared to face frigid temperatures, learning to bulk up on clothing and lather on the hand lotion (never knew my hands could get THIS dry!!).  However, this winter has yet to make up it’s mind whether it wants to be frigidly cold (like…single digits Fahrenheit) or almost as warm as a nice, sunny Fall day (it’s gotten up to the fifties at one point).  And now (like most of the winter), we back in limbo…upper 20’s to lower 40’s with snow interspersed.

Alas, I am grateful that this first Michigan winter has been kind to me…giving me a chance to live in snow and wind within reasonable temperatures before overwhelming me with everything it’s got.

Normally, this is where I start going on and on about what’s been going on in the lives of the An family.  In all seriousness, there hasn’t been much change on the Midwestern front.
…not happy…not happy at all…
The biggest change actually happened hundreds of miles away…as we spent one last weekend in Washington DC with MyungChul (and Irene…who was an AMAZING hostess!!  THANK YOU!!) before he headed off to Korea for a year (working for LG).  Obviously, this change doesn’t have as big of an impact on me as it does on InChul (living in different states, even regions of the country, is one thing…living on the opposite sides of the world may be a bit tough on them).  Up through college (and a bit afterwards too), these two were inseparable.  In fact, they had never lived in separate rooms until Daeywi and Jon Chae forced them to their 2nd year of college, when they drew straws to see “which twin they would get” to room with them (they chose at the end of 1st year and didn’t tell the twins until WAY later).  And even after they began drifting apart physically (moving into different cities, different professions, different circles of friends), they still are each others’ best friend (when they’re together, I always become the third wheel, sad to say).

…and trying to fill that void, even as the wife, is
quite difficult, let me tell you…
Now they are experiencing for the FIRST TIME living in complete opposite time zones (meaning when it’s night here, it’s day there…and vice versa), where even the internet phone calls and Skype are limited due to the difference in time.  Yet, they make do with what they can and chat at LEAST once a day (usually more).
So to our wonderful brother/brother-in-law, we miss you and we wish the best for you.  You are in our prayers.
Here are some photos from our last weekend together before he headed to the motherland…
