Remembering September

SpartAN Family!  😀

Hello friends and family!  This is the An family FINALLY checking in.  With out-of-town visitors, some traveling, and work, I really haven’t had much time to sit and think and write. So to make up for my delay, I hope to make this installment in “The Life of the An Family” as entertaining as possible (but don’t expect too much).

Seasons Come, and Seasons Go…

So, of course, I always start these things out with a weather report (because most of the people who read this are not familiar with the climatic changes of the Midwest…since you don’t live here).  In my last report, I mentioned how the weather had become quite schizophrenic, not knowing whether it was ready to usher in Fall weather or hang onto the last traces of a blistering hot summer.  Well, the weather has finally made up its mind and we have been experiencing some mildly blustery, “highs in the low 60’s” type of weather (with the occasional dips into some REALLY chilly upper 40s temperatures).   We have already been switching out our summer gear for winter wear (*SOB*!!) and organizing our closets.  This, of course, means also embarking on the toss (donate)/save/plan wardrobe purchases for our second Michigan winter.  We were lucky last year, as the winter was apparently a LOT milder than it normally is.  This year, we’re bracing ourselves for a “big one”.

Atlantans Invade East Lansing…and then ON TO CANADA!!

One of the highlights of the end of August was the visit paid us by Bekah (a.k.a. Chung Sibling #2) and Minnie.  They actually gave up vacation time to come see me and InChul, and we were more than pleased to be able to share our new surroundings with them.  InChul was a bit busy at the time being on ICU Night Float…couldn’t travel much with us…which made their arrival all the more serendipitous (I didn’t have to spend evenings alone).

Sharing Michigan with a couple of people who had never seen the state was fun…especially since, now that we had lived here for a year, I could pinpoint some cool venues and places.  Plus, it gave me an excuse to discover some places in Michigan I otherwise would never think to visit – Grand Haven, Downtown Lansing.  Of course, the pièce de résistance was out trip to Toronto, ON (where we really lucked out because it was the weekend of the Scotiabank Buskerfest.  Ultimately, we had a great time traveling to an “exotic, faraway land” (as exotic as Toronto can be, anyway) and I’m so glad to have shared those precious moments with them.

MSU Spartan Football Commencement

New Spartan Stadium “Big Screen”

So obviously, many of you already know of the An family’s penchant for Spartan Athletics (specifically football and basketball).  Needless to say, we were so excited (more like raving mad ecstatic) that football season had begun.  We made it a point to attend the opening game against Boise State (granted it wasn’t as great of a game as the win against the Badgers last year, but we had fun)…even got there early enough to watch the team make their march to the stadium.  Then, of course, there’s the OSU vs. MSU Big Ten opener…exciting game, but ended in disappointment.  This game we happened to go with a couple of our resident friends (Priyank and James) which made the game that much more fun!  😀

Season Opener (Boise State @ MSU) – Spartan Huddle
Season Opener – Goodyear Blimp Overhead
Big Ten Opener (OSU @ MSU) – The Spart”Ans”  😉
Big Ten Opener – All Three Classes of MSU Residents

The Wedding of Merf and Laura (A Journey Home)
It’s one of those events you just can’t believe has arrived already.  Mehrdod’s wedding is an event that we knew was coming, but couldn’t believe was actually happening.  This is probably because we weren’t around when Merf was dating Laura, and so never saw them as an item…and then suddenly, they’re getting married.  Still, it’s amazing to see just how much Merf loves this girl…and how much he is loved by her.  We know that this marriage is one steeped in love…and we pray that God would continue to bless them throughout the rest of their lives together.

So thus endeth an eventful September.  Next installment – more on the everyday goings on of the An family…as well as some personal thoughts (of which I am comfortable sharing).
Until next time, enjoy the cooler weather, and stay healthy!
