Introducing "Thankful Thursdays"

I really don’t know why I ever decided to start blogging.  It’s difficult for me to stick to doing something (that I don’t absolutely HAVE to do…like eat, sleep, work, use the facilities, shower…you get the picture) consistently enough to hold the attention of an audience.  You would never know this about me, because normally I’m someone who runs around like a crazed lunatic looking for SOMETHING to do.  But it always has to be something NEW!  I’m great at starting things…so bad at keeping it going.

Anyone out there that can relate?  (PLEASE tell me I’m not the only one!)

The point of my self-deprecatory rant is that, in order to get myself to see this whole “blogging business” through, I’m looking for ways to set certain expectations (benchmarks, if you will) for myself…so I actually feel bad when I miss blogging.  Of course by now you realize that “[Trying to be] Fashionable Fridays” was one such expectation I placed on myself (which I found is pretty difficult when you don’t have someone to take photos for you…but I shall still prevail!).  Today, I introduce another day-of-the-week topic – THANKFUL THURSDAYS!!

So…what is “Thankful Thursdays”?

Thankful Thursday (n.) – a post topic in which the blogger shall name one (or more) person, place, or thing, whether of proper or common noun type, in which said blogger illustrates the level of gratitude she has for said person, place or thing in weblog form on a specified day of the week (in this case, Thursday)

Hmmm…I wonder if the beautiful alliteration is part of the reason why Thanksgiving always falls on a Thursday?

Being purposeful in giving thanks for our blessings shouldn’t be limited to one day a year in November.  We should be purposeful in giving thanks EVERY day (or in my little blogging world, at least once a week).  It’s always good for the soul to realize just how blessed we are.

So…thus commences the very first “Thankful Thursday”!!

This Week I’m Thankful For…
…the loves of my life…

Okay, perhaps it’s a cop-out to make your first “I’m thankful for” post about your husband and your dog.  But truly, how could I start it any other way?  After all, these two are the ones who make home feel like HOME to me.  They are my family, and I cannot be more blessed to have them in my life.
…can’t get more “laid back” than this…
I’m thankful for a husband who is so patient and giving.  Being a bit more “intense” as a person (understatement of the century), I’m usually the one blowing things completely out of proportion and causing myself undue stress.  He is the one who brings calm to my chaos…reason to my recklessness…peace to my pandemonium.  And while in this sense he is the complete yin to my yang, we are so alike it’s almost scary.  We’re both kids at heart, love sports, love competition, love to hang out with friends…we share many common interests and end up spending a lot of time together because of it.  No one “gets me” quite like he does (though I’m sure at times he looks and me and thinks, “What in the world is wrong with this woman?”).  He is the Clyde to my Bonnie (my “partner in crime”).  I couldn’t imagine any man being able to be around me so much and still love me as much as he does.  He is amazing, and God definitely had me in mind when he stitched this one together (I really can’t think of any other explanation than that).
I’m also thankful for our little four-legged “baby”.  I don’t know how we came across a canine who’s personality is more suited to our lifestyle and personalities as he is.  He’s independent, a bit stubborn, and yet playful and affectionate – perfect combination for this little family.  Most of all, he is ALL LOVE, always begging to be petted, have his belly rubbed…and he always seems to know when I’m just a little bit depressed (he will plop himself next to me, look at me with those big, beautiful brown eyes, and try to distract me from my problems by begging for a head scratch).  He’s a smart dog, and I really couldn’t imagine life without him.
…not to mention, he’s a GREAT foot warmer…

No matter the circumstances, we always have something to be grateful for.  Sometimes, focusing on the blessings can help in dealing with the trials along the way.
What are YOU thankful for today?
